Legal & limitations

Do I need a copyright or a trademark for my logo?

For a logo you use as your brand, the protection that matters is a trademark. Copyright protects the artwork as a creative work; a trademark protects the logo as the sign that tells customers your goods come from you, and it is what stops others from using a confusingly similar brand. Before you register a trademark, check that no earlier live mark is likely to block it: LogoVerify runs that check on a name and a logo. LogoVerify does not register copyrights or trademarks.
